Omar, a young baker, crosses the border to meet his girlfriend. He becomes involved in the assassination of an Israeli soldier and gets arrested. Inside the prison, Omar is subjected to torture and is tricked into confessing by an undercover Israeli officer. The usual scenes in Israeli prisons are present—queuing for food, torture rooms, paranoia over being spied on, and meeting a lawyer. He is given an ultimatum: either work with the Israelis and rat on his comrades or spend his life in prison. Once out, he is stuck between protecting his beloved and being loyal to the cause.
What is new in the film is the depiction of the confrontation between prisoners and undercover Israelis, and the offer that the Israelis often make to convince someone to work with them. The film also shows the dilemma and danger former prisoners live with, where they are threatened by both the Palestinian militant factions and the oppressive Israeli system. Hence, the impact of the brief imprisonment stays with the protagonist arguably for the rest of his life.
